Ups and Downs

So goes the way of the world that with the highs comes a low......translation - I had a flat out rejection from one of the agents I subbed to last week ( not the one that nibbled but one I spoke to at the party). So onward and upward. However it made me smile that the things she disliked about the script were the things that others had praised in it - go figure!

This morning has been glorious as a fresh cool breeze was blowing west from the sea. I walked around a palace this morning enjoying the almost crisp air and enjoying the crunch of dried leaves under my feet. No I was not hallucinating. Leaves do drop here and in the morning it can be almost cool.

Ain't it always the way, Liz? In one single week I had a rejection from an agent saying my work was 'too rooted in the domestic' and another from an editor saying the situations were 'not real enough for the reader to identify with'.

Just keep trying, hon.

Oh, Jan....it makes you wonder if we all live on the same planet.

Thanks for the encouragement :-)

Hugs on the R but at least they didn't keep you dangling. Blue was rejected by one agent as she didn't think there was a market for that kind of book and my heroine's profession made her unsympathetic and you know what happened with that! You'll get the agent and, more importantly, the publisher, that's going to be perfect for you. Miss Snark always said you couldn't give up till you'd queried at least 50-100 ggggg.

Sympathies Liz. I had a rejection last week that said she liked my theme but thought my characters needed emotional depth and, oh, she didn't like novels written in the first person! But Mr Agent obviously disagreed so asked for a full. Each agent is very different so don't let this get you down. Onwards!

Just one agent's opinion Liz. Fingers crossed for the other nibbles:-)

You'll get bites elsewhere, Liz. *hugs*

Ah, it's only the beginning. My husband, the painter tells other painters to never let a gallery owner represent them if she's not crazy about the work. There's an agent who will be crazy about yours and that's what you deserve and you will find each other. :)

Thanks Nell, Cally (sounds a bit like the r I got - wonder if same agent???), Lane and Rachel.

I'm not really worried about the r and it just means it time to send out another sub :-)

What a great thought Lisa. It's a bit like buying a house - don't unless you fall in love with it :-)

Yup, you need someone who will be a huge advocate of your work. Consider this an audition for the agent, as well as for yourself.

(((Hugs))) and good luck with the others.

Thanks Julie :-)

A couple of weeks ago I received a rejection and my daughter did too, although hers was for trials for a football school of excellence. Not quite the same thing. I'm sure you'll get there.

Atleast you have all that wonderful weather to cheer you up. Think of us in the cold wintery days. Actually it has been almost springlike today but I don't suppose it will last. Fingers crossed for the other agents. You wouldn't want it to be too easy would you!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about the rejection. But you sound like you're handling it really well.

I've tagged you for the Stuck in the Middle meme on my blog. A little silliness to help take your mind off this minor blip.

Thanks Debs and give your daughter a big hug. I think rejections earlier in life are much harder to take - maybe because you expect them less.

Thanks Sheepish....speinglike in November? I love France in the build up to Christmas.

Will wander over and check out the meme Rebecca :-)

Yeah, me too (well three actually, so far) but, as you say, onward and upward. One of mine said that it's a very subjective business, which I think is so true. Think of all the rejections J K Rowling had - that always cheers me up!

Sorry about the agent who passed. Does it help to know I've received more rejections SINCE I've been published than before? Ot does that make it worse? Fingers crossed for the next.

I'm sure one of the agents that you queried will love your work :-)

CS, I'm not sure :-)
